The Journey to Pentecost

After the joy and wonder of Easter Day, the story of resurrection is not finished - it is only just beginning.
The weeks that follow invite us into a journey: a slow unfolding of what it means to live as people shaped by new life, moving step by step toward the gift of Pentecost.

In this series, After Easter: The Journey to Pentecost, we walk alongside the first disciples as their lives are transformed by encounters with the risen Christ. Their experiences mirror our own: moments of fear, doubt, confusion, and longing gradually giving way to peace, hope, purpose, and courage.

Each week traces a movement of the heart and spirit —
From Fear to Peace
From Despair to Hope
From Survival to Abundant Life
From Anxiety to Action
From Isolation to Partnership
From Following to Leading
and finally From Promise to Fulfilment

This is not just their journey - it is ours. As we listen again to these familiar scriptures, we are invited to recognise the risen Christ meeting us where we are, and gently leading us toward who we are becoming.

12 April - From Fear to Peace

John 20: 19-31
In a world marked by uncertainty and division, the disciples’ fear feels familiar. The risen Jesus meets them not with judgement, but with peace - offering a grounded courage that enables them to step back into the world. This peace is not passive; it is the beginning of a brave, compassionate engagement with reality.

19 April - From Despair to Hope

Luke 24: 13-35
The road to Emmaus is a journey through disillusionment - when hopes for change seem to have failed. Yet Jesus joins the conversation, listening, questioning, and gently reframing the story. Hope is rekindled not through denial, but through deeper understanding, calling us to recognise signs of new life even in difficult times.

26 April - From Survival to Life

John 10: 1-10
In a culture where many are simply trying to get by, Jesus’ vision of abundant life challenges systems that diminish human dignity. This is a call to move beyond survival - for ourselves and for others - and to work toward a world where all can flourish.

3 May - From Anxiety to Action

John 14: 1-14
When the future feels uncertain, it is easy to become overwhelmed or paralysed. Jesus invites trust - not as escape, but as a foundation for action. Faith becomes a catalyst for meaningful change, encouraging us to live with purpose, courage, and responsibility.

10 May - From Isolation to Partnership

John 14: 15-21
We are not meant to face the challenges of the world alone. The promise of the Spirit speaks of connection - between God and humanity, and among one another. This is an invitation into collaborative, Spirit-led living, where community becomes a source of strength and shared purpose.

17 May - From Following to Leading

John 17: 1-11
Jesus entrusts his vision to his followers, calling them to carry it forward. Leadership here is not about power, but about service, integrity, and courage. We are invited to take responsibility for embodying love and justice in the world around us.

24 May - From Promise to Fulfilment

John 7: 37-39
The image of living water speaks to a deep, sustaining source of life within us. As we arrive at Pentecost, we are reminded that the Spirit empowers us not only to believe, but to act - to become channels of renewal, hope, and transformation in a thirsty world.
