Beyond the Box
Do you or your home group wish to discuss a provocative book on being the church today? If so, Tom Stuckey’s book on John’s gospel may be the perfect catalyst. Tom, a Methodist minister, uses anecdote and story as well as John’s gospel, to see things differently, ‘beyond the box’. He is writing for those who are already within the church family; each chapter has questions at the end and so the book is suitable for a home group.
Tom acknowledges the cultural pressures we face: lack of time, competition for our time from other interests and the church traditions we have inherited within a world that is forever changing. He asks us to go on a guided tour with him through John’s gospel while he comments on its important features - just as we might approach a cathedral with a tour guide.
Tom invites us to look ‘beyond the box’ of our normal viewpoint and so meet the Living God. Whether he succeeds is for us, his readers, to say.
