Passing the Baton on
Deacon Sarah Wickett and Maggie Grand recently visited Jo Shaw to thank her for being part of the Flower Arranging team for over 40 years, initially as a helper then later leading the team. Sarah presented her with a gift and card on behalf of us all.
Jo joined the team bringing a wealth of experience from Ayletts Nursery in St Albans where she worked in their big Flower Shop arranging flowers for all kind of occasions.
At that time the Church team arranged flowers not only for Sunday worship but also for many weddings and funerals, so it was a busy role with Jo often getting up early to shop for the very best flowers at the wholesalers in Lea Valley. Jo stepped into the role of team leader when she retired, a responsibility she has undertaken with great dedication, care and love.
Jo is very modest about her contribution but was assured by Sarah that her act of service in this role over many, many years has been very much appreciated by the whole Church. Not just because the flowers enhance our worship in a beautiful way and remind us of God’s creation but also the blessing it gives those who receive the flowers taken out by the Flower Delivery team on a Monday. A boost when times are hard or a thanksgiving for those milestones in life.
This hidden ministry is a wonderful gift to us all. Maybe you can join them? We would love to welcome new members, no experience needed! You can shadow another team member and learn as you go along.
Clare Barnes has been a member of the Flower Arranging team for a while now and we’re pleased to announce that she has taken over from Jo as Coordinator. If you want to know more contact Clare via the Church Office.
