Journeys in the Wilderness

Part of living as Jesus did sometimes involves us following him into the wilderness.

In the Bible, the term ‘wilderness’ is a rich metaphor and often holds a negative connotation. It might be that our jobs, homes or communities feel like a place of barren exile. We can experience the wilderness of losing a loved one, being fired or getting ill.

It might be that our inner worlds are the desert places as we go through periods of feeling dry, doubtful or low. Lent is a time to remember that even Jesus experienced such times. But as Jesus demonstrated, the wilderness is still the place to worship, still the place to find and examine the mystery and mess of faith, and the hope that shines throughout.

This Lent, we will be taking time to look at wilderness journeys we may face in our lives, being open and honest as we recognise that life is not always plain sailing, as we join Jesus' own journey, approaching the events of Easter.
