Summer Reads for a Wonderful World
Book of Wonders: Exploring the Great Mysteries of the Universe
by Scripture Union
Would you like a colourful and informative book, yet with bite-size chapters looking at different aspects of God’s wonderful world? If so, this book is a must. Although primarily aimed at young adults, it is also a fascinating read for all of us who are ‘young at heart’.
Each chapter is spread across a 2 page spread with bright coloured pictures and few words; different type fonts with fascinating information are used so that even the words are well presented. The book gives insight into various aspects of God’s world including planets, plants and dinosaurs.
Some chapters also delve more deeply into the building blocks of life including atoms, elements and electricity. In a gentle way, the book presents the wonder of God’s world and our responsibility to care for it, based on the latest science from many Christian scientists.
Love in a Time of Climate Change
by Sharon Delgado
This is a thoughtful challenge to help us think through the issue of climate change. Sharon, a Methodist minister, through stories and recent evidence, helps us assess the implications of climate change and develop our own conclusions about what we should do.
There are three main sections: the first one looks at the evidence for climate change; the second one looks at its effects on creation, and the third section looks at establishing justice. In the conclusion the author calls us to respond with mercy. The book is a thoughtful challenge concerning our responsibility for God’s Wonderful World.
