Getting to Know John

As we continue with our Bible Month sermon series based on the Gospel of John, the Resource Centre has many books and materials to help you dig deeper.

Reading John for Dear Life: A Spiritual Walk with the Fourth Gospel
by Jaime Clark-Soles

This book was personally recommended to me, and after reading it, I can vouch that it is worth the time! The book is written in a lively, friendly conversational tone whereby the author walks us gently through the gospel. Some chapters also end with questions for personal or group reflection.

In this small book Jamie Clark-Soles, a New Testament professor and frequent church speaker, helps us see that reading the gospel is supposed to be life affirming. One review comment picks up this theme: ‘Other treatments of John will be informative, but this book could be transformative if read thoughtfully and meaningfully.’

Bible Study Guides – John For Everyone
by Tom Wright

As an individual, or as a small group, you may wish to dive straight into the text of the gospel of John and grapple with its message. If so, then this book by Tom Wright, which contains many questions and thought-provoking comments on the text of John, may meet the need. The book can be used by itself or with Tom’s commentaries on John in his ‘For everyone …’ series – these too are in the Resources Centre.

The questions are designed to open up the text in new ways under the tutelage of one of the world’s leading New Testament scholars. The book has some excellent reviews on Amazon – it’s well worth a look.
