Getting to Know... Ian Greenshields

We're continuing our ‘Getting to Know…’ series by learning a little more about Ian Greenshields, one of our youth team volunteers.

My preference is for the traditional service format but it is good that the congregation is large enough to support a more modern format too and that our ministers, team of preachers and worship leaders are willing to undertake the hard work needed to maintain two consecutive Sunday services.

The quality of content and delivery of sermons by the current ministerial team and worship leaders is exceptional. The sermons always give me much food for thought and inspiration to do better for Christ. I am also inspired by the fellowship and friendliness of the congregation particularly those who gather in Wesleys.

I am currently undergoing formal training as a youth volunteer at High Street. The young people of today are the future and young Christians are the future of the church. In my view nurturing their development generally and their faith particularly is vital to their wellbeing and that of the rest of us regardless of our age in relation to theirs.

I have three children and three grandchildren and take an active interest in their lives. Although long retired from paid work I find an active church life keeps me going and I sometimes volunteer at ‘one-off’ church events

I am interested in ancient history and railways of Great Britain, including railway modelling; a hobby which is enjoyed by quite a few of my church acquaintances! I am also passionate about the retention of skills and attitudes that are in danger of extinction as modern technology affects us all.

I find my connection with God through the universality and unconditional nature of God’s love and the value of connectivity. This has made me more understanding and tolerant of peoples’ differences. I believe it is through loving and connecting with others that we connect with God.
