Our two morning services join together for a special all-age service to celebrate Harvest.
Harvest celebrations are all about giving thanks for the produce of harvest but this year we are also going to be celebrating the diversity of the people and communities that God has created.
We would love for everyone to be involved in this year’s service so we are asking the question:
What can you bring to the table?
To explain more, here’s our Lead Youth Worker Ruth Lindridge:
Anything you bring to the service will be only be for the interest of the fellow congregation and you won’t have to show it off on stage/on camera.

Harvest celebrations are all about giving thanks for the produce of harvest. This year, we're extending that gratitude and celebration to more than just the food we produce for our tables. Celebrating not only what grows from the earth, but also the richness and diversity of the people and communities that God has created. We are growing, changing beings and we cultivate lives that happen to be quite varied. We all have a different story to tell.
So to represent this on Harvest Sunday, please bring with you one thing that represents a part of your wonderful self. A part of your story. This could be a piece of equipment, clothing, accessories, a tool you use, a language book, a musical instrument, a flag, anything that celebrates your diversity.
Now sometimes it can be tough to think of these things. Now some of us may have already been called diverse and it may be quite obvious for you what you would bring. That's excellent. We want to celebrate your story.
But for those of you who may be struggling to imagine what I'm on about, here are some helpful ideas to get you started.
So, for example, if it was me, I could bring something from my profession, such as my LX shirt. Or I could choose to show a part of the culture of the place I grew up in for example whether you liked it or not you absolutely absolutely had to be a Newcastle supporter or I could bring my Geordie phrase book that my uncle gifted me.
Now some things may have come to mind that it's actually not physically possible to bring them along to a Sunday service maybe it's too big maybe it's just not possible to bring. Now if it was me I could bring a picture of stottie cakes and pease pudding. I grew up singing folk songs about stottie cakes and pease pudding but bizarrely nowhere around here sells them so I would bring a picture.
When we start to think of our stories there's an awful lot that has gone on but let's each choose just one thing that we could bring and let's fill our church this harvest with signs of our diversity.
So you have until the 27th of September, what can you bring to the table?
Online Community
We love that you are part of our community but realise if you join our services online, you will not be able to physically bring an item along with you.
We have a number of other ways that you can be part of this service.
Firstly, you could take a photo of yourself with your chosen item and email this photo to our Technical and Communications Manager Miriam. We can then include the photo in our pre and post service slides. Please note, by sending the photo, you are giving us permission to use it on the live stream on our social media platforms.
Secondly, we are creating an ‘I am…’ video montage to show in the service. For further instructions on how to be part of this, please contact the Church Office.
Lastly, the prayers are going to be read by a group of people. If you are happy to film yourself reading a prayer (the wording will be provided), please contact the Church Office.
