Changes in Children's Church

I found you don’t need special skills, just a love of children, a sense of adventure and a willingness to learn and share.

After many years of serving, Maggie Grand is leaving the Children’s Church team. We asked Maggie what she had enjoyed most.

I have loved being involved in Children’s church. It is such a rewarding aspect of serving the Church.  Young children are great fun to be with and give such interesting answers to questions… I often have a silent chuckle to myself!

It has had a huge impact on my faith. Planning for sessions has made me really look at a Bible story and think “what is this really saying” and “how does it impact the children’s lives”. My faith has grown so much as a result as I have been challenged to ask questions of myself too. How am I matching up to the teaching I’ve given the children that week? I’ve learnt so much.

Sally, Pamela and I have led the children’s activities in the hall and have supported each other as we have made our way through the many themed sessions during the years. It’s great to be able to show videos and have a quality sound system to enjoy songs like “My Lighthouse”.

I started helping some time ago when Glenday Thomas ran the group. I wasn’t sure I had what was needed but felt God calling me to say “yes” when I was asked. I found you don’t need special skills, just a love of children, a sense of adventure and a willingness to learn and share.

We have had challenges to deal with, the pandemic for one, but we learnt how to talk to a camera and to use Scruffy to help with the story telling.  Yes, a great team - I’m sad to be stepping down but feel this is the right time for me.

I would really encourage you to think about whether you could get involved in children’s work. I can promise that you will get more out than you put in!  If you’d like an informal chat do get in touch
