Over 700 Worry Monsters and Counting!

Since Let’s Knit began in 2020, our wonderful volunteers have lovingly created more than 700 worry monsters and animals.

These aren’t just cuddly toys – they’re therapeutic resources, helping trained professionals support children through anxiety, bereavement, trauma, attachment difficulties and other emotional challenges.

Our knitted creations are now being used by play therapists, ELSAs (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants), educational mental health practitioners, trauma-informed practitioners, social workers and special schools across the UK.

If you knit or crochet and would like to join Let’s Knit, we’d love to hear from you.

This recent ‘thank you’ letter from Knit-for-Nowt shows just what a difference your knitting is making.

Hi to all at “Let’s Knit”,

Wow, it was really exciting to receive once again huge boxes of items from you, and a HUGE thank you to all who contributed, you are an amazing bunch of people!

I have spent the afternoon going “Ooh” and “Ahh” because you have all made such fantastic items for the therapists.  I have already labelled and packed up all the animal worry eaters, and the monsters and hand puppets will get their turn soon!  You all use such a lot of skill and everything is just what we need.  And it’s especially good to receive your work now, as I know it’s hard to knit in heatwaves!

I thought you’d like to read the request from one of the next therapists, as it sums up the usage of our monsters and puppets so well:

Accredited Play Therapist
Childhood Bereavement Specialist
Therapeutic Life Story work Practitioner (Rose Model)
“I am an independent mobile Play Therapist working across multiple schools and within my private clinic, supporting approximately 23 children each week aged between 4 and 16. The children I work with present with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties, including anxiety, trauma, self-harm, attachment difficulties, parental imprisonment, sexual abuse and severe emotional dysregulation. Around one third of my client base are children in foster care, and some are at risk of permanent exclusion from school. My work enables children to express and process difficult emotions through creative and symbolic play without relying solely on verbal communication. Puppets and Worry Monsters would be used therapeutically to help children safely explore feelings, worries, relationships and traumatic experiences in a developmentally appropriate and emotionally containing way.  Many Thanks”

The next 20 therapists who will benefit from your kindness are based all over the UK.

Huge thanks again, and hope you are managing to keep cool.

Best wishes,

Knit-for-Nowt
