Full Steam Ahead!

I’m very interested in railways; travelling on them, watching programmes about them and even modelling them. I like both the historic Steam trains and modern-day diesel and electric trains.

I have some good friends in church who share this interest and we often talk together about it in Wesleys after the service on Sunday. Also, I have friends outside church who are railway enthusiasts. In all they range in ages from their 30s to their 80s with a wide range of rail-based knowledge, likes and experiences.

So one evening before Christmas I thought it would be nice to use Wesleys to bring the six of us “railway enthusiasts” together to chat over tea and coffee about whatever came into our heads about trains! We also used the big screen connected to my laptop to surf the internet finding out information on our discussions and watching some of the mass of train items out there.

We all really enjoyed it and decided we’d like to repeat the experience on a monthly basis. Some of us are planning to bring other pieces of railway-ana to share too; dvds, models, books, signs etc.

We’d like to extend an invitation to join us to anyone else in church (or indeed other friends of yours too) who feel they’d like to become part of this; spending a couple of hours together with like-minded individuals and making new friends who you have a shared interest with.

Our next meeting is 24 January 7-9pm.

We look forward to seeing any of you there (except, perhaps, the nameless person who, when I was originally talking about setting this up, said they “couldn’t think of a worse way to spend an evening” ! Well, it takes all sorts to make a world doesn’t it..!)
