Music at High Street

Music contributes greatly to worship for joyful and uplifting praise and also for quieter reflection and prayer. At High Street, we encourage different expressions of worship; traditional to contemporary.

All the groups below welcome new members – please feel free to come and speak to us to find out more!

Praise Band and Worship Group

We have two groups of musicians who lead our informal services. Featuring drums, guitars, keyboard, bass and singers, we use a wide range of contemporary worship songs in our services. Different services have different lineups, with violins, clarinets, flutes and many other instruments joining the bands.

Church Choir

Our robed choir lead worship in our traditional morning services and many evening services. They sing an anthem at each service and often include sung responses, blessings and the Lord’s Prayer. They also sing at the annual Christmas Carol service, special services and weddings when required. The choir’s repertoire consists of a wide variety of styles from traditional four part harmony to spirituals and from plainsong to contemporary, balancing learning new anthems and reprising old favourites.

New Creation

New Creation is a choir for all ages who sing at some of our informal style services. They have also enjoyed singing at other churches in the area, weddings and the Christmas Carols and Cakes parties.

Song styles include gospel, contemporary and new arrangements of hymns and worship songs, in multi-part harmony.

Traditional style services are normally led by our pipe organ whose history dates from 1932. The fact sheets below are available to view online for more information.
