Sabbath as Resistance

This is an easy-to-read yet thought provoking Bible discussion on the theme of rest and the Sabbath. This provocative and culturally relevant book from Walter Bruegemann has recently been re-issued with a 6 part study guide for group or personal use.

Bruegemann challenges the assumptions of our culture: the appetite always for more. He writes that the call to keep the Sabbath is about seeing life holistically and becoming a whole person within a society that is more humane. This is Bruegemann at his best: with the message of the Old Testament prophets ringing in his ears, he challenges the political, social and cultural norms that our society says is normal; it is counter-cultural. Looking at the online book reviews, it comes highly recommended. What I also liked was the large print font!
